Making Memories at Bay Harbor Golf Club

Nestled in the heart of the Midwest you’ll feel as if you’ve transported into the Scottish countryside but you’ll remain on the shores of Lake Michigan.  Bay Harbor Golf Club will allow you to experience an unforgettable golfing experience and so much more. The Links, Quarry and Preserve were designed to be three distinctly different courses but can be combined seamlessly into one incredible golfing experience.

During my experience at the Bay Harbor Golf Club I was able to stay at the Inn at Bay Harbor which has the reputation as the perfect vantage point for viewing the “million dollar” sunsets over Lake Michigan.  The Inn at Bay Harbor  set the standards for Michigan hotels and redefined the stand for Michigan resorts and I very quickly saw why when I entered the Penthouse Suite which overlooked the golf course and the lake. The suite had a fully equipped kitchen and laundry, a fireplace, multiple bedrooms and individual bathrooms, as well as multiple private balconies.

You’ll need to stay carefully focused because these three beautifully maintained 9 hole courses stretch along the Lake Michigan shoreline overlooking the dunes and cliffs giving you the thrill of nature and the challenge of some the best courses in the country.

At the time that it first opened in 1996, The Links, was the most expensive 9 hole course ever built and to this day it challenges and mesmerizes every golfer to step onto it’s tee boxes.  The design of this course was to create that Old Scottish world feeling while highlighting the beauty that the Michigan Shoreline has to offer.  While playing The Links I found it to be the most beautiful course I’ve experienced to date.  The water looked like I was watching the ocean waves crash against the shore instead of a lake in the midwest.  The serene atmosphere makes you stop and absorb all the beauty that your surroundings have to offer.

The second course, The Preserve, highlights the vast forests and wildlife of Northern Michigan and allows you to experience the true tranquility of the nature preserve.  After a calm and peaceful round you will come to the last hole which is a challenging Par 3 that opens up to the Michigan shoreline.

The last of the three courses to be completed is often considered the “diamond in the rough” because the Quarry was literally carved out of the abandoned stone quarries that line Lake Michigan.  This course was very challenging and the amount of water made each shot more difficult but the views truly breathtaking.

After any day on the course, it’s important to stop and refuel. The Links Grill at Bay Harbor is the perfect spot to stop and enjoy a meal while continuing to overlook the breathtaking water views that the Quarry’s finishing hole has to offer.

Bernie Friedrich, Senior VP of Golf Operations, can be  quoted as saying “playing these famed courses is more than playing a round of golf it’s a tradition to be shared, an experience to be treasured, and a memory to last a lifetime.” After my trip to Bay Harbor, I will wholeheartedly attest to this statement. This was an experience I will treasure and a memory that I hope to make a new tradition. Begin making your plans now so that you can visit Summer’s Golf Capital of Michigan...
